Teaching and Supervision

Prior to becoming a professor, Lisa was a teacher in the public school system, and teaching remains a passion for her. At the University of Ottawa, she has taught PED 3120: Teaching at the Junior Division (Social Studies and Physical Health Education), PED 3141: Curriculum planning, Implementation, and Assessment, Part 1; PED 3138: First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Education: Historical Experiences and Contemporary Perspectives; PED 4142: Inclusive Education; 3150: Becoming a Teacher Through Inquiry in Practice; PED 3151: Enacting Collaborative Inquiry in Professional Practice and EDU 5190: Introduction to Research in Education. Lisa believes that relationships with her students, immersive experiences, and arts-based methods are the foundation for meaningful teaching and learning.

Professor Howell is curently accepting a limited number of MRP, MA, and PhD students with research interests in Indigenous education, anti-racist education and policy, social justice and teacher and youth activism, settler-colonial studies in teacher education, holistic pedagogies, and truth and reconciliation.
