Teaching and Supervision

Prior to becoming a professor, Lisa was a teacher in the public school system, and teaching remains a passion for her. At the University of Ottawa, she has taught:

  • PED 3120: Teaching at the Junior Division (Social Studies and Physical Health Education)

  • PED 3141: Curriculum planning, Implementation, and Assessment, Part 1

  • PED 3138: First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Education: Historical Experiences and Contemporary Perspectives

  • PED 4142: Inclusive Education; 3150: Becoming a Teacher Through Inquiry in Practice

  • PED 3151: Enacting Collaborative Inquiry in Professional Practice

  • EDU 5190: Introduction to Research in Education

Lisa believes that relationships with her students, immersive experiences, and arts-based methods are the foundation for meaningful teaching and learning. Professor Howell is curently accepting a limited number of MRP, MA, and PhD students with research interests in Indigenous education, anti-racist education and policy, social justice and teacher and youth activism, settler-colonial studies in teacher education, holistic pedagogies, and truth and reconciliation.
